Workday HRIS Mini-Implementation

A mock HRIS implementation outlining core Workday objects, data flows, ownership, and reporting foundations to support scalable People Operations.

Context

Problem

As organizations scale, inconsistent HR data and unclear ownership across systems can limit reporting accuracy and decision-making.

This case study simulates a Workday HRIS implementation to demonstrate how structured system design enables reliable People Analytics.

HR data was fragmented across hiring, onboarding, payroll, and reporting processes, resulting in:

  • Inconsistent employee records

  • Unclear ownership across HR, IT, and Finance

  • Limited trust in downstream people metrics

Approach & System Design

  • Designed a future-state HRIS architecture aligned to Workday principles

  • Defined core worker objects and required data fields

  • Mapped end-to-end onboarding workflows from offer acceptance to Day 1 activation

  • Established roles, ownership, and handoffs across stakeholders

  • Embedded data validation and audit checkpoints to protect reporting integrity

Outputs

  • HRIS process flow diagram showing system-triggered workflows

  • Roles & ownership (RACI-style) matrix clarifying accountability

  • Standardized employee record structure designed for analytics readiness

Tools

Business Impact

  • Improved data consistency across onboarding and reporting workflows

  • Clear accountability reduced handoff errors and rework

  • Created a scalable foundation for workforce reporting and analytics

  • Workday (conceptual HRIS design)

  • Google Docs (process documentation)

  • Diagramming tools (workflow & ownership mapping)

Visuals

  • Workday Modules in Scope
