Attrition & Headcount Analysis

Analyzing workforce composition and attrition patterns to identify risk areas and support targeted retention decisions.

Context

Employee attrition directly impacts cost, productivity, and workforce stability. While organizations often track attrition at a high level, meaningful action requires understanding how headcount and attrition vary across departments, roles, and tenure.

Problem

The organization lacked clarity on:

  • How headcount was distributed across departments and roles

  • Where attrition was concentrated

  • Whether attrition patterns were isolated or systemic

There was no structured view connecting headcount and attrition together.

Approach & Analysis

An attrition and headcount analysis was conducted to:

  • Establish a clear baseline of total headcount

  • Segment attrition by department, role, and tenure

  • Compare attrition patterns across employee groups

The analysis focused on identifying risk signals, not assigning individual-level blame.

Outputs

  • Headcount distribution overview

  • Attrition breakdown by department and tenure

  • Supporting charts to highlight high-risk segments

Executive Insights

  • Attrition was concentrated in specific departments and early tenure groups

  • Raw attrition counts alone were misleading without rate-based context

  • Segmentation revealed patterns that would not be visible in aggregate metrics
